Our Facilities

Special Veterinary Services shares a large facility with the general practice of the Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital. Each has its own wing in this 14,000 square-foot hospital. Specialized equipment enables the veterinarians to diagnose and treat conditions impossible without our collection of today's advanced technology. The facility houses three surgical suites, two radiology rooms, ten examination rooms, two complete treatment centers, an ultrasound facility, oncology suite, library and CT scan room. Our equipment equals that of the nation's best veterinary colleges, and is utilized by most local practitioners as an additional service they can offer their clients.

                                                                                                                                 
Our History

In 1978, Special Veterinary Services was established wherein specialists provide assistance and expertise to local veterinarians in a private-practice setting, as opposed to the university setting available at UC Davis.
As veterinarians in the Bay Area realized they could receive support when handling difficult cases, they began to refer more of their patients to SVS for specialized care. As we grew, we acquired more advanced technological equipment and hired more veterinary specialists to help serve the community.
Today, SVS continues to serve as an extension to the quality care provided by Bay Area veterinary clinicians, and maintains its policy to return each patient to the primary-care veterinarian for follow-up treatment as soon as possible. SVS is well known throughout the country as being at the forefront of specialty veterinary medicine and many of our veterinarians have published multiple scientific articles and are guest lecturers at various veterinary conferences.
